Leisure is Walking Through Walls

Have you ever had writer's block or work block? We have all experienced times when focusing on work and making any meaningful progress is an absolute daydream. Rationalizing with ourselves or applying more force only tends to make us more scattered. We need a needle to weave all those loose threads, an arrow to direct our thoughts. Well, as above, so below. If work feels distracted or directionless, go outside, pick a direction and start walking. If taking a break ahead of a deadline sounds foreign to you, consider it the fastest way to accomplish your goal of completing your work.
Working smarter and harder has been taken to extremes. Silicon Valley has experimented in recent years with nootropics, meditation, and layer upon layer of technology. All with the goal of extracting and organizing every last bit of productivity from their humans before they dump them for AI automation. The hilariously dirty secret there is that the most productivity-enhancing technology now blocks the noise created by all the other helper technology. The upside to overdelivering is maxed out.
That is not what I am referring to when I say it is the fastest way to accomplish a goal. It is the best way to accomplish your work while remaining sane and human. Work, like all things, must exist in a balance and the most random accidents have led to some of the biggest breakthroughs. You can't optimize and automate your way to originality or fulfillment. Life is for the living. The future is analog, children.
Walk Through Walls
You don't need to do anything as extreme as what you may have seen in the catacombs or Paris. Walking through walls is simply seeing beyond the next step, and choosing the next step or next direction. Walk through the physical world and you will make progress in the etheric realms. Choosing a direction eliminates indecision and gives your confidence a boost. Stepping away from your problem gives you perspective that you might not otherwise attain. Allow yourself time and space to see new connections between the information you have taken in and the knowledge you already have. You don't need to push yourself to complete work, you need to eliminate the distractions that drain your attention and inspiration. You may need to move in a different direction.
Temporarily redirecting your attention away from work or intentionally defocusing can bring about many insights and inspirations. In the fractal view of the world, each journey is a miniature replica of the larger picture. If we are struggling with our work journey right now, successfully completing a smaller journey can reset the fractal to reflect our desired outcome. Orienting yourself for this outcome is as easy as taking a walk around the neighborhood. Or, if you are lucky, through the countryside. It is easily accomplished; provides inspiration, requires definitive decision making and is extremely likely to have a pleasing and successful outcome.
We may not all have easy access to paths through ruins, meadows, and forests or seasides along which to travel. We still have earth and sky and perhaps stone, grass, hills or trees. Our outdoor environments may be dominated by the sounds of transportation but we can still listen to the waves and the birds. Experiencing our senses in the natural world for pleasure, outside the buildings that contain us and without the screens that blind and bind us, is walking through walls. Moving through the world, the world without walls, enlivens us to connections and opportunities beyond our present circumstances and breaks us out of the mold.
The Cumulative Benefits of Success
Walking every day benefits us both physically and mentally. For attunement, or spiritual consideration, think of the power of successfully completing a journey or task and enjoying it. Every single day. The benefits of walking build over time and eventually leave a lasting imprint on us. We build honesty and self-discipline when we faithfully take a walk every day. We experience beauty and joy, we choose a direction confidently and we successfully conclude our activity, all things we want to do in other areas of our life, right?
By layering the correct habits into your life, you can reset the fractal mirror to reflect opportunity, adventure, completion and success. Start with a walk after lunch if you go to the office or a quick trip around the neighborhood at the end of the day if you work from home. This builds the habit of walking right into the fabric of your day. Next, add in an early morning or late evening constitutional. You can walk three to four miles in under an hour. Layer walks into transitions in your day. For your health and well-being, when stuck or changing focus, walk through a wall and see the benefits of this action refracted throughout your life with the brilliance of a diamond.
